Treatment for Mechanical Knee Pain

Knee

Mechanical knee pain usually shows up with a specific movement — going down stairs, twisting, or after activity — and it often has an identifiable mechanical cause.

At Spine Center we look for that cause: alignment, compensations from the hip or foot, muscle tension, or load that's unevenly distributed through the joint.

With a clinical evaluation and, when it's indicated, knee decompression, we build a conservative plan before considering surgery.

What is mechanical knee pain?

It's pain tied to movement, load, or position — unlike the constant pain of inflammation. It usually points to an issue with alignment, cartilage, or the structures that support the joint.

Common symptoms

  • Pain going up or down stairs.
  • Discomfort when twisting or bending the knee.
  • Pain that builds with activity and eases with rest.
  • A feeling of instability or a “click” when you move.

Our approach

When to come in

  • Recurring pain with physical activity.
  • Sport or work that's held back by the knee.
  • Pain that doesn't add up with rest and painkillers alone.

Find the cause of your pain

Book a knee evaluation. We look for the mechanical cause before recommending any treatment.
